The microcontroller performs several operations on the reference assembly.
• It monitors the external reference status, and if an external input is detected, will
try to frequency-lock the 10 MHz oscillator.
• It monitors the 10 MHz oscillator oven current to determine when the oscillator
is warmed enough to provide a stable output.
• It sends control words to the 72 MHz PLL.
• It gathers and reports fault and status information to the KST-2000A/B M&C as-
sembly.
3.8 Monitor and Control (M&C)
The Monitor and Control (M&C) monitors the KST-2000A/B and provides configuration
updates to the up converter, down converter, and HPA when necessary. Refer to
Figure 3-13.

The KST-2000A/B configuration parameters are maintained on battery locked RAM,
which provides recovery after power down.
The M&C functions include extensive fault and status reporting, as well as 1:1 redun-
dancy logic. All KST-2000A/B functions are accessible through the remote communica-
tions interface.
